Runners Education Series Aims to Maximize Stride

Tidewater Physical Therapy and Point 2 Running Company want to help runners get the most out of every mile with a four-part education series featuring top industry experts who will offer tips and strategies to become a better runner.

The free series will be held each Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. March 10 – March 31. Each session will include Starbucks coffee and a light breakfast. Runners on the Peninsula can learn about a variety of topics ranging from medical treatments for running-related injuries to wellness tips for improving endurance.

Soft Tissue Treatment for Runners
March 10 | Point 2 Running Company – 12080 Jefferson Ave., Newport News
Mike Satterley, (PT, DPT, SCS, CIMT, CMTPT, CSCS) director of Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Oyster Point clinic, will present information about soft tissue treatments including dry needling and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, which aid in the recovery of athletes.

Nutrition for Running Performance
March 17 | Point 2 Running Company – 12080 Jefferson Ave., Newport News
Nutrition Specialist Ola Davis (MS, CSCS, ACE-FNS) will introduce key nutritional tips to improve running performance such as nutritional balance, the role of carbohydrates in aerobic sports and pre- and post-workout nutrition strategies.

Postural Assessment for Running
March 24 | Tidewater Performance Center – 751 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News
Director of Performance Services Katie Allen (MS, CSCS) will discuss the importance of proper posture, alignment and muscle balance while running. She and other Tidewater Performance staff will offer functional movement assessments for attendees to address improper movement and avoid future injury.

Performance & Injury Prevention Exercises
March 31 | Tidewater Performance Center – 751 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News
Katie Allen (MS, CSCS) will lead a fun workout focused on avoiding common running injuries and strength training to improve overall running performance. Attendees at this session should come dressed in athletic clothing and shoes, and be prepared for a fun workout.
