Pete Elser, MSPT, OCS, OCS, CMTPT joined TPTI in 2009, after 9 years in orthopedic private practice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Westminster-Canterbury of Virginia Beach. His path to a career in physical therapy began when he broke his back in three places. “MDs never fixed me,” Pete says. “They just kept throwing different medications at me. PT fixed me.”
Within 2 years of his experience, he entered a PT program, with a desire to have the same effect on others. He had already completed an undergrad degree in Chemistry at East Carolina University in 1990, and went on to PT school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. In his ensuing career, he adopted and practiced the treatment philosophy that movement is medicine. Pete believes hands-on treatment is what heals patients. Today he specializes in orthopedic treatments, and takes particular interest in helping patients with spine and upper extremity dysfunction. Pete is a certified Orthopedic Specialist and also holds a certification in Dry Needing.
Physical activity has always been a priority and passion. Through high school and college, Pete was an avid athlete, playing ice hockey, tennis, racquetball and golf, as well as skiing and diving. He is now a runner and a biker, who also enjoys motorcycling, landscaping and volunteering for community cleanup projects. The best piece of advice Pete has received: be true to yourself.
