Tidewater Physical Therapy clinics at Gloucester Point and on Main Street in the Gloucester Village are pleased to announce they’ve welcomed two new Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) to the team.
“We are delighted to bring these two new clinicians onto the team,” said Regional and Clinical Director Natalie Conway, PT, MPT, OCS, ATC. “They are enthusiastic about helping patients live active lives and bring a great deal of passion for working with patients in the greater Middle Peninsula region.”
PTAs are specially trained in physical therapy and provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist. They work with patients of all ages who have medical problems, or other health-related conditions, that may limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives, according to the American Physical Therapy Association.
The new PTAs will work under Karen Kovacs, PT, MPT, OCS, Clinical Director at the Gloucester Point clinic and Conway at the Courthouse location.
Alyssa Burke, PTA joined the Gloucester Courthouse clinic, located off of Main Street in central Gloucester. Originally from Florida, Burke completed her undergraduate degree at Christopher Newport University in Newport News and went on to earn her physical therapy degree from the Medical Careers Institute, also in Newport News.
“Having been an athlete my whole life and with my coaching experience, working in physical therapy was exactly what I wanted to do,” Burke said of her experience in high school and collegiate level lacrosse.
Dawn Allen-Bontrager, PTA joined the Gloucester Point clinic, located off of Route 17 on Chapman Drive. Originally from Hawaii, Allen-Bontrager completed her physical therapy education at the ECPI Medical Careers Institute following a decade of experience as a massage therapist. She enjoys working with patients and is skilled in manual therapy, geriatric exercise, dementia patient therapies and balance recovery.
She enjoys helping educate Tidewater Physical Therapy’s patients on their treatment and why it will help them in their recovery and mission to live life stronger.
“The more the patient knows, the more involved they will become in their own recovery,” Allen-Bontrager said.
