Tidewater Physical Therapy is pleased to announce that Mike McFarland, PT, DPT, CMTPT, has been named Clinical Director of the Magruder Clinic in Hampton, Va.
“He’s built for this position,” said Ken Morris, PT, DPT, CMTPT, Clinical Director of the Tidewater Physical Therapy Hidenwood Clinic in Newport News and McFarland’s mentor as he transitioned into the role of Clinical Director. “He has such an ability to connect with patients and a humility that makes him very approachable and trustworthy.”
While McFarland aims to continue to help patients return to their active lives through the clinic’s various physical therapy programs – including the Vestibular and Fall Prevention services launched earlier this year – McFarland said his main goal is to help keep his patients and clinical team feeling fulfilled. The Vestibular program was a feature in the Daily Press as well.
“I want to create a fun, lively, family atmosphere that has every patient smiling before they leave,” he said
After earning his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Old Dominion University, McFarland continued on to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and has practiced at the Magruder clinic since 2013.
McFarland, like many Tidewater Physical Therapy clinicians, holds Direct Access Certification and is available to evaluate and treat patients without a prescription from a physician.
McFarland distinguishes himself as a very hands-on therapist both in the therapy techniques themselves and in the way he works with patients, who he takes time with before every session to define their goals in therapy.
“He’s one of those people who doesn’t try to lead, he just has the ability to be himself, which other people feed off of,” Morris added.
Earlier this year, the Magruder clinic introduced a Vestibular Rehabilitation Program, which helps people with symptoms like vertigo, dizziness or difficulty walking improve their quality of life.
The program is designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance, as well as provide education and assistive devises. As Clinical Director, McFarland intends to expand this program.
“I want this to be the first place people think of for physical therapy and want it to be the first place they refer their family and friends.” Said McFarland.
