LWell Presents “Meet the Physical Therapist” With Ashley Forrest, PT, MSPT

The two events featuring Tidewater Physical Therapy will focus on the importance of good posture to health and wellness.

As part of a mission to help patients better understand the fundamentals of good posture, Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Ashley Forrest, PT, MSPT joins LWell in presenting two “Meet the Physical Therapist” events for the community.

Scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on February 18 and 6 p.m. on February 20, these free community events will be held at LWell at 301 Village Avenue in Yorktown.

LWell is a clinically-supervised, comprehensive wellness and weight loss program with an emphasis on the prevention of age- and weight-related diseases, particularly diabetes. LWell, short for Longevity Wellness, bridges the gap between clinical treatment and lifestyle change, two effective components for effective weight loss. Its location in Yorktown includes space for classes, a fitness studio, consultations and more.

Forrest, the Tidewater Physical Therapy Clinical Director for the Denbigh location in Newport News, will present best practices on how to reestablish good posture, how good posture can improve pain and how good posture makes exercise more effective.

“The complications of poor posture include back pain, spinal dysfunction, joint degeneration, rounded shoulders and a potbelly,” Forrest said. “It all can be preventable.”

Lower back pain alone will afflict an estimated 80 percent of adults at some point in their lives, with many adults suffering from chronic back pain, often as a result of poor posture, according to Tidewater Physical Therapy.

Forrest, who attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate studies and went on to earn her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, joined Tidewater Physical Therapy in 2001. She specializes in an exercise-based treatment approach and uses a variety of manual therapy interventions to help patients return to their active lives.
