Performance Center Hosting Women’s Health & Fitness Series May 5-8

woman working outBeing a well woman is a state of mind, the Office on Women’s Health from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services tells readers at womenshealth.gov.

“It’s being as healthy as you can be. And, most importantly, it’s about taking steps to improve your physical and mental health.”

Tidewater Physical Therapy wants to help women take those steps.

From May 5 through 8, leading up to National Women’s Health Week, Tidewater Physical Therapy and its Newport News Performance Center will host a series of health and fitness classes to help women live life stronger.

Led by Performance Trainer Tiffany Owen, CSCS, the “Live Life Stronger: Women’s Health & Fitness” series will include four, 90-minute seminars that includes 45 minutes of a hands-on lecture followed by 45 minutes of a trainer-led exercise class.

The seminar topics include:

Monday, May 5, 6:30 p.m.

The Anti-Diet: Principles of Healthy Eating and Energy Balance

Tuesday, May 6, 6:30 p.m.

Fail to Plan & Plan to Fail: Tips and Tricks of a Successful Lifestyle

Wednesday, May 7, 6:30 p.m.

Emotional Eating vs. Hunger plus Stress and Sleep Management

Thursday, May 8, 6:30 p.m.

I’m Only Human: How to Manage Setbacks

All activity levels are welcome.

“We want to encourage women to get fit and feel good,” said Paula Lumsden, Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “Tidewater Physical Therapy and Tidewater Performance are committed to bringing educational series to our communities. This series is just one aspect of that commitment.”

Coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health, the National Women’s Health Week observance is meant to bring communities, businesses, government, health organizations and other support groups together to promote the importance of women’s health.

“It also empowers women to make their health a priority and encourages them to take…steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases,” according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

While most women recognize that regular activity can help prevent unhealthy weight gain and prevent diseases, according to the department, many women “haven’t quite gotten around to setting up a regular routine.”
