Dawn Allen-Bontrager, PTA, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii joined the Tidewater Physical therapy team in July of 2015.
Dawn completed her Physical Therapy schooling in April of 2014 at ECPI Medical Careers Institute after working as a massage therapist for ten years. Dawn is confident with manual therapy, geriatric exercise, dementia patients and balance recovery. Her favorite type of patient to treat is one who is ambitious, energetic and inquisitive.
One patient she will never forget is a lady who knitted her a pair of socks for rehabbing her total hip. Dawn says her treatment philosophy is to always stress education.
“The more the patient knows, the more involved they will become in their own recovery,” says Dawn.
Dawn knew she wanted to become a physical therapist assistant because the profession offers a comprehensive approach for pain relief and balance/strength deficit improvements.
Outside of the office you can find Dawn outdoors where she likes to sail and go horseback riding. She also enjoys watching her oldest daughter’s softball games and her youngest daughter’s Tae Kwon Do matches.
Dawn is a part of her church choir as well as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and Teens Opposing Poverty in her spare time.
