Physical Therapist Michael Satterly and Personal and Sports Performance Trainer Ruth Middleton Meet With a Fitness Client

Michael Satterley PT, DPT, CIMT, CSCS, is the Sports Physical Therapy Program Director at Tidewater’s Oyster Point clinic, located inside the Tidewater Performance Center at 751 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard in Newport News. You may recognize his name as the Mike of the recurring “Mike’s Training Tips” or “Mike’s Movement” blog at www.tidewaterperform.com.

He earned his Undergraduate degree and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.

Michael utilizes his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in conjunction with Functional Movement Screens (FMS) and Dartfish video analysis to provide high-end functional training. He’s a Titleist Performance Institute Golf Fitness Instructor and works closely with the Tidewater Performance personal and sports performance trainers in the Golf FIT program.

He also has an advanced manual therapy certification (CIMT), which helps him treat not only your current symptoms, but also the root of the problem.

“Advanced physical therapists are more trained to identify WHY a dysfunction occurs, not purely WHAT a patient has been diagnosed with,” Michael said. “Treating the driver of dysfunction and appropriately educating the patient on their condition leads to the best results.”

This dynamic interplay allows patients to return to their active lives more quickly and with less chance of injuring themselves again. Michael has been practicing orthopaedic and sports physical therapy with Tidewater since 2006.

During his off time, Michael watches all sports, plays ice hockey and golf, and works out at the gym.
