Matthew Barrick, PT, DPT, CSCS makes a point to understand fully the goals of his patients allowing him to focus on building the necessary skills to return to sport or everyday
function with increased ability and decreased chance of injury.
Then he uses manual skills to alleviate pain and gain the mobility needed before strengthening the new range of motion.
Matthew was born in Newport News, Virginia and received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, & Exercise from Virginia Tech. He discovered his interest in physical therapy while working as a student athletic trainer at Virginia Tech. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Marymount University.
He is most passionate about working with athletes and the younger population. “I enjoy athletics and competition which carries over to working with others who have the same energy and desire,” he says. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he also feels strongly about educating the students on proper techniques.
When he’s not in our Oyster Point clinic, you can find Matthew staying active by playing or watching football, basketball, baseball, golf, or corn hole. He also enjoys spending time at home or out on the water with his wife Jessica, and dog Cali.
Matthew holds a Direct Access Certification through the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy allowing him to evaluate and treat patients without a prescription. As part of your healthcare team, Matthew will make an assessment of your condition and create a plan to start you on the road to wellness.
