PT Profile: Leslie Proctor

Leslie Proctor, DPT

Leslie Proctor’s motivation to become a physical therapist was pretty simple.

“I liked the fact that every day you could be making a difference in someone’s life.”

Along the way, she’s learned that patients also make a difference in hers.

While there are several patients Leslie will never forget, one “gentleman with Parkinson’s Disease came in for gait and balance training. He had nicknames for all of the exercises and would tell us stories during his therapy. He loved coming and we loved having him.”

Leslie, a graduate of Peninsula Catholic High School in Newport News, earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Medical College on Virginia in 2006.

She joined Tidewater Physical Therapy in October 2006 and currently practices at the Hidenwood Clinic off of Warwick Boulevard in Newport News.

When working with a patient, Leslie tries to ensure they understand what she’s doing and why, all while “laughing and joking…and getting to know them and what their interests are.”

Joining Tidewater’s family didn’t just help bring her to her hometown, but it also meant becoming part of a company with “an excellent reputation in the community” that would encourage her growth as a clinician.

“Tidewater is a great place to work and provides many continuing education opportunities and offers many options for professional growth.”

Leslie is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, bowls in a league with her Dad, plays softball and remains active in her church, working with the youth group.
