Chronic headaches affect 1 in 7 Americans. These individuals have the quality
of their lives, careers, and family interactions disrupted by headache pain.
The headache treatment program of Tidewater Physical Therapy, Inc.,
at the Hidenwood office, is designed to help patients reduce or eliminate their pain and
regain control of their lives.
This short term program offers a multidisciplinary approach that includes:
- An extensive patient evaluation by a Licensed Physical Therapist to
identify all possible physical causes, as well as a review of any possible diet
and emotional factors. When necessary, referrals to the appropriate
professional will be made.
- A customized treatment plan to specifically address the identified
problem areas based upon the findings of the evaluation and recommendations
from the referring physician.
- Patient instruction that allows the individual to incorporate these
techniques into their daily routines.

Tidewater Physical Therapy's Treatments
A patient in the chronic headache program will be involved in therapies
including:
- Stress Management Instruction
This program helps patients identify and develop strategies to effectively
deal with lifestyle stressors. Specific relaxation techniques reduce pain,
improve sleep, and instill self confidence in the patient's ability to manage
future headaches.
- Physical Therapy
Muscular tension, mechanical problems in the cervical spine, TMJ
dysfunction, and posture abnormalities are treated with reconditioning
exercises, stretching, and other treatment modes to aid in headache control.
Self-treatment techniques are emphasized for future pain management.
- Massage Therapy
Deep therapeutic massage releases trigger points and relaxes muscle spasms
while enhancing circulation and reducing stress. Neuromuscular techniques,
myofacial release, and acupressure are utilized as needed.
Our multidisciplinary treatment program works to reduce or eliminate the
pain of chronic headaches.
Coordination with the Patient's Physician
A referral from the patient's physician is required for physical therapy.
We participate with most major health insurance and health maintenance organization
(HMO) plans.
Tidewater Physical Therapy, Inc. provides status reports to the referring
physician to communicate the patient's progress throughout the treatment
process.
