Clinical Education

Physical therapist working with patient

Tidewater Physical Therapy shows its dedication to clinical excellence by fostering the ongoing continuing education of its therapists.   Supporting continuing education not only develops clinicians professionally, making them stronger therapists, but it also ensures that Tidewater Physical Therapy keeps a promise to the community to provide specialized services which patients and referring physicians cannot find anywhere else.

Educational In-Services

At least twice a month, therapists gather together in each region for a changing menu of educational in-service topics, presented not only by Tidewater’s diverse staff of clinicians from across the company, but also from outside speakers including physicians, orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons.  Topics range anywhere from “cervical and thoracic techniques” to “using the Wii in PT practice.”

Brian Beaulieu, Regional Director for Southside Hampton Roads looks forward to the Tuesday sessions.

“The educational part is important, certainly, but what is just as valuable is the chance you get to meet and talk to other therapists.  You see who has certain specialized skills.  Then when something comes up in your practice that seems to call for that skill or knowledge, you can get their support or advice.”

With 30 clinics conveniently located across Southeast and Central Virginia, the number of clinicians to network with is expansive.

In-House Continuing Education Courses

For those looking for more extensive education, Tidewater sponsors in-house courses throughout the year, bringing in nationally recognized instructors to further the expertise of the staff. This provides the flexibility for therapists who are not available to travel for continuing education to receive it locally. Courses include topics such as Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction, Mulligan Concept Introductory, Running Injuries, Functional Manual Therapy, and more.

Outside Continuing Education

It’s Tidewater’s philosophy to not limit someone’s ability to become specialized or certified in an area of interest by putting a cap on how much they receive for outside continuing education.  Tidewater will provide reimbursement not just for the cost of the course, but also for travel expenses involved for approved continuing education requests.  We value having therapists that offer specialized services, because in the end, this is benefiting those that need it most, the patients.
